Elon Musk responded with “Wow” to a viral X post claiming Karl Stefanovic had “took the red pill” after questioning aspects of the Covid-19 vaccine rollout and launching his own podcast. James Packer told the Sydney Morning Herald he did not think the podcast was “that bad” and called it “pretty hypocritical not to allow Karl editorial independence”. The podcast attracted negative attention after Stefanovic interviewed British far right campaigner Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, known as “Tommy Robinson”, who has a history including convictions for violence, multiple prison sentences, and accusations of whipping up hate. The episode was reportedly removed from YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Instagram, sparking crisis talks at Nine. Stefanovic’s future at the network is allegedly under review. Musk offered no further comment beyond “wow”.
