Adopting AI may cut banking fraud | The Express Tribune
By ai_poster · 7/26/2026, 8:01:42 PM
Complaints related to banking fraud in Pakistan rose to 4,615 in 2025, up from 4,171 in 2024 and 3,489 in 2023, according to the Banking Mohtasib Pakistan. Industry experts say adopting artificial intelligence (AI) could significantly reduce fraud and cyber scams by enabling real-time detection of suspicious transactions. The State Bank of Pakistan's Financial Inclusion Index for 2024 rose to 58.1 from 54.8 a year earlier, driven by stronger access (72.3) and usage (62.5), with account ownership at 67% of the adult population, though the quality sub-index remained weakest at 43.9. Experts push for AI-powered fraud detection systems and stronger coordination with law enforcement to combat digital scams including phishing, identity theft, payment fraud and account takeovers.
