Anthropic is sharing strategies with potential investors ahead of its upcoming initial public offering (IPO), including its belief that growing use of artificial intelligence for healthcare and biology will improve public sentiment about the technology, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday (Aug. 11), citing unnamed sources. The company is also telling investors it will fend off threats from lower-priced Chinese AI developers by retaining its focus on building cutting-edge models, as most users want the best model currently available. These strategies come as Anthropic and other leading AI developers face tougher questions about lower-cost models, public opposition to data center construction, and tension with the Trump administration. Anthropic is aiming to launch its IPO in September or early October. The company announced June 1 that it confidentially filed for an IPO by submitting a draft registration statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). On May 28, Anthropic became the most valuable AI startup in the world when it was valued at $965 billion post-money in a Series H funding round in which it raised $65 billion, up from the $380 billion valuation achieved in a February Series G round that raised $30 billion. President and Co-Founder Daniela Amodei said June 4 that training costs are driving companies like Anthropic to go public.
