Meta Releases Coding Agent in Beta Amid Pressure to Monetize AI | PYM…
By ai_poster · 8/6/2026, 4:12:07 PM
Meta has released Muse Code, a terminal coding agent, in beta, according to an August 5 post on X by Meta Founder, Chairman and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg said Muse Code “takes on complete software engineering tasks across large repos: planning changes, writing code, validating the results,” and is “Powered by Muse Spark 1.2, a coding-focused model update.” He added that Muse Code runs specialized background agents that build context over time, keeps a local event log to resume after crashes, can be installed with one line, and offers a low-cost contributor tier. Meta introduced Muse Spark in April, describing it as excelling at visual coding. In June, reports indicated Meta faced pressure to monetize its AI tools and justify spending. Other companies are also expanding AI coding offerings: OpenAI announced in June plans to acquire Ona to expand its Codex agent’s capabilities, and it was reported Wednesday that Google is in talks with AI coding startup Mechanize to hire talent and license its technology. In July 2025, Google reportedly recruited executives and researchers from AI code generation startup Windsurf.
