Facebook has rolled out new features powered by Meta AI that animate profile pictures, turning still photos into playful moments with preset options like waving, wearing a party hat, confetti or a heart animation. Meta plans to add more animation choices throughout the year, tied to seasonal moments and special events. For best results, the company recommends using a photo featuring a single person facing the camera with their face clearly visible. Photos can be pulled from a camera roll or from images already uploaded to Facebook, and animated pictures can be shared to Feed and viewed on a profile. Stories and Memories are getting a visual refresh through a new Restyle tool, which lets users transform an image’s aesthetic using preset style options or their own text-based AI prompt, choosing from Styles like anime or illustrated, Moods like glowy, Lighting options like ethereal, Colors like cool or pink, and Backdrops like beach or cityscape. Facebook will also recommend Memories with Restyle options directly within Stories. Text posts are getting animated backdrops for Feed text posts, letting users add still or animated backgrounds like falling leaves or ocean waves by tapping the rainbow A icon while composing a post. Seasonal backgrounds are planned for the future.
