OpenAI brings GIF maker to Images 2.6 tool
By ai_poster · 11/6/2026, 6:00:01 AM
OpenAI has rolled out a GIF maker for its ChatGPT Images 2.6 tool, a move expected to further increase image generation numbers. According to OpenAI, users now generate more than four billion images per week across ChatGPT and the API, up from the more than three billion per week. The development follows India surpassing the United States as OpenAI's biggest market globally, with more than 10 crore active weekly ChatGPT users. Images 2.6 is capable of producing photos with more natural lighting and richer textures, and is said to be good at preserving subjects in reference photos and following editing instructions more reliably across multiple turns. Image generation latency has been reduced by up to 50 per cent compared with Images 2.0, allowing users to generate images and refine concepts more quickly. With Images 2.6, users will be able to create GIFs with varying speed.
