Jeff Dean, Google's outgoing chief scientist, shared a pitch deck for his new AI startup, Discovery Loop, on X on Wednesday. The deck lists products the founding team helped build, including Google Search, Ads, Gmail, Gemini, and TPUs. Dean is founding the startup with Sanjay Ghemawat, Quoc Le, and Oriol Vinyals, and said the deck was shared with "a handful of VC firms." The startup is pursuing scientific breakthroughs with AI across fields including computer hardware and drug discovery. Dean said Khosla Ventures and Radical Ventures would co-lead its initial funding round, with Alphabet and others also participating. Dean is leaving Google after 27 years as part of a wider AI leadership reshuffle that saw Demis Hassabis become Alphabet's chief scientist and chair of Google DeepMind. Bilawal Sidhu, a former Google product leader, wrote on X that it "will go down in history as one of the most stacked pitch decks ever made." Another slide notes the founders' teams managed or worked with people who went on to lead major AI companies, including Anthropic cofounder Dario Amodei and OpenAI and Safe Superintelligence cofounder Ilya Sutskever.
