Ty Eveland, a 23-year-old based in New York, has amassed millions of TikTok views for videos "trolling" AI doctors and therapists, sparking conversations about AI in health care. Eveland uses various AI platforms to act as medical professionals, not certified software, and films himself giving fake scenarios, such as asking how to treat a "bowling ball-size pimple." He stated, "If you watch any of my videos, it's very clear that these artificial intelligence doctors and therapists don't know what they're doing." Viewers in the comment section agreed the AI agents often sound "annoyed, rude and even condescending." Eveland said, "I will never be going to an AI doctor." Dr. Alan Cohen, chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital, said the videos use humor to show AI's shortcomings in the doctor-patient relationship, noting, "If AI is not managed appropriately, it has a tendency to drive a wedge between the doctor and the patient and the family." He added, "Technology treats the disease, humanity heals the patient." An artificial intelligence company was recently sued for allegedly misrepresenting its companion bots as licensed medical professionals.
