AI Steals Secrets, Microsoft CEO Says
By ai_poster · 7/14/2026, 6:13:09 PM
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella argues that using public or vendor-hosted AI tools causes brands to accidentally give away company secrets, destroying proprietary data or competitive advantage. This occurs when employees or agency representatives post confidential financial sheets, source code, or strategy drafts into prompt boxes, or ask AI to explain specific company issues. Nadella’s argument, published in a post on X, is called "The Reverse Information Paradox," referencing economist Kenneth Arrow’s "Information Paradox." Nadella wrote that AI creates a "reverse problem" where the buyer risks giving away knowledge to use what they bought: "You essentially pay for intelligence twice, once with money, and again with something even more valuable: the proprietary knowledge you must reveal to make that intelligence useful." He added that "models learn from 'exhaust,' the prompts people write, the tools agents use, and especially the corrections people make when the model is wrong," calling this the type of knowledge a competitor could never buy, which leaks "trace by trace, correction by correction, eval by eval." Nadella wrote, "In consuming intelligence, you are creating intelligence. And what you create should belong to you."
