Quebec is looking to deepen its partnership with Korea in artificial intelligence (AI), aerospace, batteries and innovation, positioning itself as North America's gateway for Korean businesses, according to Damien Pereira, chief representative of the Quebec Government Office in Seoul, in a recent interview with The Korea Times. The Quebec Government Office, originally established as a trade office in Seoul in 1991, was upgraded to a full delegation in 2024. Since the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement entered into force roughly a decade ago, Quebec's exports to Korea have increased by around 60 percent. Between 2022 and 2024, Korean companies invested approximately 2.9 billion Canadian dollars in Quebec, making Korea the province's second-largest foreign investor after the United States. Pereira emphasized that the two economies are complementary, with Quebec offering resources and a gateway to North America, while Korea serves as a gateway to the Indo-Pacific. Quebec's strengths in frontier research, software and innovation pair with Korea's manufacturing base and ability to commercialize technologies at scale.
