Kakao announced on August 6 that it was selected as the implementing company for the "AI Agent Marketplace development support project," overseen by the Ministry of Science and ICT and run by the National Information Society Agency (NIA). Kakao will form a consortium with Kakao Enterprise to build a private sector-led open ecosystem by Dec. 2027, with a total budget of about 11 billion won combining government contributions and private matching funds. The platform will allow users to search for and use AI agent services and agentic AI tools in one place, covering the full process from agent registration and verification to discovery, composition, execution, and settlement. A first launch is targeted within the year, with a second launch planned for 2027 after an advancement phase including an agent studio. The marketplace will use an open architecture not tied to any specific cloud or AI model, connecting domestic and overseas AI models including Kakao's "Kanana," with integration via APIs and MCP. All registered AI tools will undergo multiple verification steps, including security reviews, sandbox testing, and hallucination control, with a standing revalidation system during service. The consortium will leverage Kakao's "PlayMCP" platform, hosting more than 400 MCP servers, the "AI Agent Builder" tool, and the pilot service "AI National Secretary."
