The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), through its School of Computing, collaborated with Cardiff Metropolitan University, United Kingdom, and the British Council to host the HerHCAI 2026 Capacity Building Workshop, themed “Empowering Women through Human-Centered AI for Gender Equity and Sustainable Development.” Workshop Chairperson Professor Olutayo Boyinbode described Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence as a people-first approach ensuring AI systems serve humanity ethically, fairly, and responsibly, adding that empowering women with AI knowledge and digital skills could bridge the gender gap in technology. Co-Chairperson Dr Bola Omisade of Cardiff Metropolitan University applauded the partnership, encouraging participants to develop AI-driven solutions for their communities. Keynote speaker Professor Chika Yinka-Banjo emphasized that Human-Centered AI prioritises ethics, transparency, fairness, accessibility, and inclusivity, stating that AI systems should be co-designed with users and tested for low-resource environments to eliminate bias. Mrs Opeyemi Uduoye spoke on “Generative AI: Opportunities for Women in Education, Business and Research,” demonstrating how generative AI tools are transforming education through personalised learning, enhancing research productivity, and opening opportunities in entrepreneurship, digital marketing, and content creation.
