OpenAI eyes Israel expansion, hires staff and weighs business hub

OpenAI is considering establishing operations in Israel, initially as a business development operation rather than a research and development center, to build ties with the local tech sector. A senior Israeli Amazon executive who led AWS for Startups has been recruited by OpenAI and will be responsible for the EMEA region, reporting to a manager in London while focusing primarily on Israel. OpenAI is expected to hold an event for startups in Israel with AWS toward the end of the month to present its services for the enterprise market. The company’s careers website lists an opening for an account manager serving Israel’s tech sector, officially based in Paris but expected to work from Israel. People familiar with OpenAI’s plans believe the company will later seek a senior executive to lead an Israeli sales office. OpenAI currently has only two R&D centers outside the United States: one in London and another in Zurich.
