A Lagos-based innovation studio, Nsibidi Fables, has spent two years building AI tools designed specifically for African content, classrooms, and stories. Africa’s digital economy is projected to grow to $712 billion by 2050, and the continent’s projected creator economy is estimated at $17.84 billion by 2030. According to data from the Federal Government, the Creative Economy is already Nigeria’s second-largest employer, supporting approximately 4.2 million jobs. Nsibidi Fables is building technology in Lagos to automate, simplify, and accelerate production for African creatives making films or animations, addressing problems such as the hundreds of hours of labour required for consistent colouring in animation. The studio’s position is that its tools are built for African character designs, production pipelines, and market realities, ensuring the tools used to scale are designed for Lagos, not for California.
