OpenClaw has shipped version 2026.9.5, announced on X, bundling 4,179 pull requests and 64 direct commits with credits to 502 contributing accounts. The open-source, MIT-licensed personal AI agent runs on your own machines, with a Gateway connecting models, tools, and chat channels such as Telegram, Slack, and Discord. The main change is Atomic Updates, addressing updates that break a working agent. Previously, an update had 2 outcomes: incremental improvement or catastrophic failure, and in the failure case the old version went down as well, leaving no agent online to help with the repair. The new flow keeps the existing Gateway running while the update is prepared, checks the next version against a private copy of your setup, switches over, verifies the updated installation, and rolls back to the last working configuration if the update fails. The team also added an issue reporting button for updates. Release notes list limits: Atomic Updates apply on supported update paths only, rolling back the application cannot undo database migrations, and the private validation copy is not a backup. If an interactive update fails, AI repair starts only after you choose Yes, uses your account and tokens, and a 30-second timeout skips it.
