Huawei is reportedly preparing to launch its AI chips in South Korea in the fourth quarter, including the Ascend AI accelerator lineup—the Ascend 950DT and 950PR—and the Ascend-powered Atlas 950 SuperPod AI computing system. According to ETNews, Huawei may position these products as a lower-cost alternative to NVIDIA, with tailored pricing, marketing strategies, and a possible South Korea-specific brand name. The Ascend 950PR entered mass production in April 2026, and the Ascend 950DT, optimized for AI training, is planned for a fourth-quarter launch. Huawei has selected two local distributors, including existing partner SK Shieldus, for their product distribution experience and technical capabilities. The Atlas 950 SuperPod will be positioned as cost-competitive, with Huawei claiming the Ascend 950PR delivers roughly 2.87× the inference performance of the H20 at about one-quarter the cost. The report notes the Ascend 950PR has been adopted by several major tech companies, including for DeepSeek V4 deployments, and Huawei has improved compatibility with NVIDIA’s CUDA ecosystem. However, challenges may include local sensitivity toward Chinese technologies and concerns over higher power consumption due to heat generation.
