Microsoft Reworks Security Team Around AI Tools
By ai_poster · 7/16/2026, 4:07:34 PM
Microsoft is reshaping its cybersecurity business around AI tools like Security Copilot and code-scanning software, and The Information says the shift includes cutting several hundred roles and dialing back parts of its older lineup. The Information reported that Microsoft is reorganizing its security group as corporate customers ask for AI that can spot threats and fix weak spots faster. Hayete Gallot, who took over the unit in February, is pushing teams to consolidate overlapping work and focus engineering on newer AI-first products. As part of a broader Microsoft layoff earlier this month, the report says several hundred jobs in the security group were eliminated, and a number of senior leaders have left since former security chief Charlie Bell ran the org. The portfolio is being trimmed too: Microsoft is prioritizing Security Copilot and developer tools that scan code for vulnerabilities, while reducing investment in lower-revenue products like Sentinel, its cloud security monitoring service.
