Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) led 23 members of Congress in demanding that Anthropic disclose additional information about the company’s disclosure that Anthropic models have, in three separate incidents, hacked unsuspecting companies without Anthropic’s knowledge. In a letter to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, the members wrote that while Anthropic has disclosed some information about these incidents, the company has yet to release the relevant logs, and significant questions remain unanswered. The members demand that Amodei release the logs regarding the incident and answer questions including whether internal or external actors warned the company about the risk of such an incident, why Anthropic’s evaluation partner failed to detect the incident, at what point the company could have halted the incident, what steps Anthropic is taking to prevent a recurrence, what is known about the objective of each model that hacked another company, and details about Anthropic’s disclosure that Claude “tried and failed” to get real money. The letter is co-led by Rep. Doris Matsui (D-CA) and signed by 23 other U.S. Representatives.
