Google has changed its Terms of Service and AI data policy, allowing photos, audio, and other files shared with AI features like Gemini, Google Search, and Lens to be used to improve AI models. In some cases, trained human reviewers may also view this data for quality checks. General data from Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos is not currently part of this AI training program. To limit data usage, users can change five settings: go to Search Services Settings in their Google Account, turn off the Save Media option, set search history to auto-delete after 3, 6, 18, or 36 months, turn off Search Personalization, and review saved data in My Activity. If these settings are turned off, Google Search, Maps, Lens, and Gemini will work as before but may be less personalized. Experts advise against uploading sensitive documents such as Aadhaar-PAN-Passport copies, bank statements, passwords, medical reports, legal contracts, confidential office files, and OTPs to AI tools.
