Andrew Garfield addressed Amazon MGM Studios' decision to drop Luca Guadagnino's film _Artificial_, about OpenAI and Sam Altman, saying he was "and I wasn't [surprised]" by the timing after Amazon committed a "$50 billion investment" to OpenAI and Altman attended Jeff Bezos's wedding. Garfield refused to criticize the studio, stating "They were nothing but supportive and nothing but encouraging while we were making the film," and framed the split as a mismatch: "There are certain things that fit certain places and don’t fit other places." The "$40 million" film was acquired by Neon, which has announced a full awards campaign targeting this year's Oscar race. The Simon Rich-penned script traces the chaotic 2023 events surrounding Altman's firing from OpenAI and his reinstatement. Garfield leads a cast including Monica Barbaro, Yura Borisov, Mark Rylance, Ike Barinholtz, Jason Schwartzman, Zosia Mamet, Cooper Hoffman, Chris O’Dowd, Cooper Koch, and Billie Lourd. He made no attempt to contact Altman, saying "I wouldn’t know how to. I don’t have his number. I don’t have his email," but remained open to a future conversation. Release date is yet to be announced.
