Meta brings Conductor on board its model train

Meta has acquired AI coding startup Conductor, with co-founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announcing the deal in a blog post. Holtz said the company's hosted Conductor Cloud, a sandbox for hosted agents, will go read-only on November 13 and shut down on November 20, while the macOS app for running multiple coding agents simultaneously in isolated copies of Git projects will continue working for the next few months, with the company expecting to provide a way to transfer Conductor Cloud workspaces to local machines. In early 2027, Conductor will no longer receive new models or critical bug fixes. A Meta spokesperson confirmed the acquisition will strengthen the company's developer-oriented AI capabilities but declined to elaborate further. The Conductor deal comes without an announced price and follows Meta's moderated appetite for big acquisitions since April, when China blocked its $2 billion offer for Manus AI. Meta's other acquisitions this year, Moltbook, Assured Robot Intelligence, and Stilla, are also AI-oriented but more modest in scope. In Meta's most recent conference call for investors, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company aims to provide AI agents that non-technical people can deploy for business tasks.
