How to use Gemini in Google Messages

Google introduced Gemini AI inside Google Messages, allowing Android users to access conversational intelligence without leaving their default texting app. The integration enables drafting replies, brainstorming ideas, planning events, or chatting with Gemini within the Messages interface. Unlike traditional chatbots, Gemini in Messages works seamlessly with RCS, offering contextual suggestions and productivity tools. The feature supports more than 165 countries and multiple languages. Requirements include an Android phone, the phone’s language set to a supported language, the latest version of Google Messages, a personal Google Account managed on your own, being 18 or over, and RCS chats turned on. Gemini cannot be used with a Google Account managed by Family Link or with a Google Workspace account. To start, open Google Messages, tap the chat with Gemini or tap Start chat > Gemini, follow on-screen instructions for the first time, and enter a question or prompt. Users can explore different conversations by tapping a suggestion above the message field, optionally add a photo via Show attach media screen, and tap Send message. Apps can also be used within the chat. Chats with Gemini are not end-to-end encrypted.
