A DeepSeek researcher’s personal blog post went viral after the September 13 release of DeepSeek V4.1-Flash. Researcher Liu Shengyu wrote that as AI develops, future society may trend toward communism or Cyberpunk 2077, warning that if Anthropic controlled the world’s most advanced AI forever, the outcome could resemble the latter. Liu said he still believes the most frontier intelligence should be supplied to everyone openly and cheaply, adding that he does not trust Anthropic or OpenAI to do that and especially does not want Anthropic controlling the most advanced artificial intelligence or AGI. He likened the severity of that to letting Hitler get the atomic bomb before the Allies, and said this is why he chose DeepSeek and has stayed: to research powerful, fast, universally accessible AI and open-source it. Liu also said that in six months or a year, AI-written kernels will most likely be as good as or surpass his work, but he continues due to the race dynamic and expects to pivot to working as a “mecha pilot” for agents. As of September 18, his article remained on his WeChat blog and received sympathetic coverage in outlets including Huxiu, 36Kr, and state-owned Yicai. DeepSeek has not commented in support of its researcher, but neither has the lab asked him to take it down.
