Gems integrate with the Google ecosystem, allowing automatic access to the latest versions of Drive files and Gemini Notebooks. Claude Projects only accept manually uploaded files. A key difference is memory: Gems do not remember specific information from older conversations, while Projects store previous chat history and recall that information. For example, when a user provided a list of favorite movies in a Gem's instructions and added more in a separate chat, the Gem only recalled the list from the instructions in a new conversation. The same test with a Claude Project resulted in it listing everything the user had told it.
