Meta has introduced Facebook Verified, a free verification badge that uses a selfie-based identity verification process to help users identify authentic individuals, distinguishing them from AI-generated profiles. Unlike the subscription-based Meta Verified, this no-cost feature requires users to record a short video selfie, which Meta compares with existing profile photos, typically taking only a few minutes. To qualify, users must be at least 18 years old, comply with Facebook's Community Standards, and show no evidence of fraudulent or inauthentic behavior. The feature initially applies only to personal Facebook profiles, not Pages or Professional Mode accounts. Once verified, the badge will appear on Marketplace, Dating, Groups, and user profiles, with plans to expand to Feed posts. Meta emphasized the badge is not an endorsement or guarantee of trustworthiness, and verified users remain subject to platform rules. The rollout begins in select markets before expanding globally.
