The U.S. Department of Commerce lifted export restrictions on Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models, clearing the company to restore global access after adding new safeguards aimed at blocking cyber misuse. Anthropic said Commerce notified the company on June 30 that the controls had been lifted, following weeks of talks with the Trump administration. The company had disabled access to its most advanced models on June 12 to comply with the directive, then got a partial green light on June 27 to redeploy Mythos 5 to some U.S. critical infrastructure organizations. Separately, Amazon Web Services unveiled AWS Secret Cloud for Industry, a new managed cloud service that lets cleared private-sector organizations run contractor-owned classified workloads directly on AWS for the first time. Dave Levy announced the offering June 30 at the AWS Summit in Washington, D.C., saying it follows a multi-year collaboration with the Defense Information Systems Agency and Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency. Northrop Grumman became the first defense contractor to deploy classified workloads on the platform. AWS also put up to $20 million in ASCI credits over three years, plus up to $1 billion for intelligence community cloud modernization through October 2030. Additionally, the Defense Department and U.S. Office of Personnel Management launched War Force, a new recruiting push to bring software engineers into DOD roles through OPM’s broader Tech Force program, with salaries listed between $125,776 and $197,200.
