Google DeepMind has shared video demonstrations of its Gemini Robotics 2 AI system controlling humanoid robots as they perform everyday household chores. The demos showcase two robots: the Apptronik Apollo 2, a full-body humanoid, and the Franka F3 Duo, a dual-arm system for tabletop tasks. Both run on Gemini Robotics 2, the latest AI model from Google DeepMind designed to control physical robots in real-world settings. The robots fold laundry, pick up objects of various shapes and sizes, and navigate home environments without collisions. The Apptronik Apollo 2 handles physical, whole-body tasks requiring balance, while the Franka F3 Duo excels at precise manipulation. Previous robotic AI systems focused on single jobs and struggled with changing conditions, but Gemini Robotics 2 is built on the same large-scale AI foundation as Google’s Gemini chatbot, giving it broader world understanding. Google DeepMind believes a general-purpose AI brain trained on vast data will create robots capable of thriving in messy environments. Google DeepMind did not create the robots themselves; Apptronik, based in Austin, Texas, developed the Apollo humanoid, and Franka Robotics, a German company, made the precision arms. Testing on hardware from different manufacturers shows Google wants its AI to function across multiple platforms.
