Tesla's Optimus Could Become A Bigger Memory Customer Than Its Cars, …

During Micron’s fiscal third-quarter earnings call, CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said that “humanoid robots carry 10 times the amount of memory as an average L2+ vehicle,” and that Micron expects “a sustained, substantial multi-decade memory demand cycle to begin in the latter part of this decade.” While Micron did not mention Tesla specifically, the comments come as Tesla continues to position Optimus as a major long-term growth opportunity. Mehrotra noted that advances in simulation, foundation models, and integrated hardware are accelerating physical AI, creating demand for high-bandwidth, low-power memory for real-time perception and control. Micron’s broader message was that AI system performance depends on memory, which has become “a strategic asset,” and that AI-driven demand is outpacing supply, with tight memory market conditions expected to persist beyond calendar 2027.
