NVIDIA launched Alpamayo 2 Super, a 32-billion-parameter open reasoning model for autonomous vehicles, now available commercially under the Linux Foundation's OpenMDW-1.1 license. Built on the NVIDIA Cosmos architecture and post-trained with reinforcement learning, the model is designed to handle complex, rare edge cases. The release provides developers, automakers, and robotics firms with open model weights, enabling full fine-tuning, data ownership, and a pathway from cloud-based development to in-vehicle production fleets. The OpenMDW license removes research-only restrictions, allowing commercial integration into proprietary vehicle architectures. Developers can use the model as a teacher in cloud environments to generate reasoning traces, synthetic training data, and distilled models for in-vehicle hardware. The platform aims to streamline development cycles for Level 4 autonomy. Alpamayo 2 Super expands situational awareness by fusing full-surround camera coverage from front, side, and rear viewpoints, helping process maneuvers such as unprotected turns, lane changes, and dense multi-agent intersections. The system generates five synchronized outputs per driving scenario: a planned trajectory path, a chain-of-causation trace, a high-level meta-action indicator, reasoning auto-labels, and visual question-answering responses, providing interpretability tools for safety engineers to audit behavior and validate compliance.
