A Kerala man, Mohammed Ismail, traveled over 1,200 km from Palakkad to Jagtial district in Telangana to repay a 31-year-old debt to his former colleague, using Google Maps and Google Gemini AI to trace him. In the early 1990s, Ismail and Edla Lachanna worked together at a construction company in Saudi Arabia, where Ismail borrowed 3,000 Saudi Riyals from Lachana. After both men returned to their hometowns and lost contact, Ismail, remembering only that his colleague hailed from Dharmapuri in Jagtial district, began his search from Palakkad, eventually locating Lachanna’s house after traveling via Hyderabad. On arrival, Ismail discovered Lachanna was still working in Saudi Arabia; his family connected the two men through a WhatsApp video call, where Ismail transferred Rs 25,000 to Lachanna’s family via PhonePe. Lachanna’s family was deeply moved, with his son Abhilash expressing surprise at Ismail’s sincerity, noting he was not yet born when the loan was made.
