Nvidia is backing a massive Texas data centre through a long-term lease commitment that could eventually be worth as much as $50 billion. The chipmaker has agreed to a 15-year lease valued at $19.6 billion, with renewal options that could extend the arrangement to 30 years and lift the total commitment to roughly $50 billion. The 1-gigawatt facility is being developed by Hut 8 and is expected to house hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs, and has already secured access to electricity. Once completed, Nvidia could sublease capacity to neocloud companies, giving it greater influence over both the hardware and infrastructure layers of the AI market. Separately, Nvidia is reportedly discussing a potential $250 billion backstop tied to an OpenAI data-centre project in Ohio.
