A TikTok user named Porter (@porterehurd) described nearly being scammed by a dealership after running a car's VIN through Google Gemini. He test-drove a BMW at a dealership, but the car "felt off" and did not drive well despite a perfect spec sheet. After deciding not to buy it, he ran the VIN through Google Gemini, which revealed the car was "$30,000 bought at auction with noted front-end damage" from a salvage auction. The car had been sold at a salvage and insurance auction in 2025 in Oregon for a final bid of $30,250 with 26,853 miles on the odometer. Around six months later, it was relisted for $46,491 with 27,343 miles on the odometer, having been repaired. Porter urged others to run VINs through Google Gemini or other AI tools to uncover information hidden behind paywalls.
