Anthropic is considering launching a new flagship AI model following OpenAI’s rapid expansion in the corporate market, as GPT-6 Astra, unveiled in early September, gains clients and prompts potential Anthropic investors to reassess the company’s position ahead of a possible IPO. This comes as Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei calls on the industry to slow development of the most powerful systems due to AI risks. After OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra on 3 September, the balance began to shift; OpenAI positions Astra for complex professional tasks including programming, browser-based tasks, computer-related work, cyber security, science and multi-step autonomous processes, pressuring Anthropic, whose Claude has grown stronger in writing code, working with large amounts of data and performing complex tasks with minimal human intervention. GPT-6 Astra accounts for approximately 13% of corporate spending on AI, compared with around 8% for Claude Fable. Some potential investors are reassessing Anthropic’s competitive position, and the cycle of technological leadership is shrinking to months or weeks.
