Liran Belenzon, Founder and CEO of BenchSci, stated on LinkedIn that Anthropic is "quietly becoming a biopharma," not merely an AI company selling to pharma. He reported that Anthropic is "buying the data" by approaching biotechs and data providers to acquire proprietary datasets. Belenzon noted they have organized their drug discovery arm around therapeutic areas, rather than as a research team. He claimed they "think they can do pharma with 1/1000th of the people," having already done so in coding. Belenzon added that Anthropic "bought a ~10-person team" and is likely running the "Formation Bio play: a tiny group of humans, an army of agents, and a drug pipeline that used to take thousands." He argued this is "their clearest path to real money," as "one approved giant blockbuster drug can double their yearly revenue."
