Unexpected Changes Unfolded in Cai Haoyu's AI Startup from miHoYo

Cai Haoyu, founder of miHoYo’s AI company Anuttacon, has updated his LinkedIn profile, with his work experience at Anuttacon ending in July this year and his new identity listed as "Independent Large Model and Agent Developer," replacing his previous title of "AI Soulcaster." Anuttacon has recently paused projects, shut them down one after another, and seen team members leave. Cai Haoyu stepped down as chairman of miHoYo in 2023 to focus on cutting-edge technology research, founding Anuttacon with the goal of endowing AI with emotion, performance capabilities, and interaction abilities closer to those of humans. The first public product was the AI game "Whispers from the Star," where players communicate with Stella, an astrophysics student trapped on an alien planet, through text, voice, and video calls; Stella responds on the spot relying on AI without pre-written lines. After completing technical verification, the team strategically terminated development of subsequent versions. AnuNeko, an AI chat software launched at the end of last year, separated the AI character from the game, using a black cat default image that expresses emotions and uses miHoYo insider slang, but announced permanent shutdown less than a year after launch, with the official reason citing limited team scale and need to invest resources elsewhere. The third attempt is LPM 1.0, a video character performance model with 17 billion parameters enabling long-term real-time interaction of virtual characters.
