The Gujarat government, the Indian AI Research Organisation (IAIRO), and IBM plan to establish an Industrial Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence (Industrial AI CoE) in Gujarat to accelerate Industrial AI innovation, build AI talent, and strengthen India's sovereign AI ecosystem. The proposed CoE will focus on advancing AI across asset-intensive industries such as manufacturing, energy, utilities, and supply chains, functioning as a ‘living lab’ to support development, testing, and adoption of industrial AI applications while promoting indigenous sovereign AI technologies. The initiative aligns with Gujarat's ambition to become a leading destination for Industrial AI. The Centre will develop the ecosystem through pilot projects, technology demonstrations, workshops, conferences, and stakeholder engagements, and will focus on AI talent development via academic collaborations, hackathons, certification programmes, and training. It also aims to contribute to AI frameworks, reference architectures, standards, and best practices. IBM and IAIRO will serve as technical and strategic advisors to the Department of Science and Technology in the Gujarat government, providing expertise in industrial AI, sovereign AI technologies, and enterprise asset management platforms.
