Amazon MGM Studios dropped Luca Guadagnino's upcoming film *Artificial*, a biopic about OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's 2023 firing and rehiring starring Andrew Garfield, from its release slate despite the movie being "nearly" finished. A studio rep stated they have "utmost respect and admiration" for Guadagnino and believe the film "will be better served if it were released by a different studio," working to find a new home. No further reason was given. *Variety* noted the move followed Amazon's "massive partnership" with OpenAI earlier this year, involving $50 billion in investment, and reported the film portrays Altman as a "pathological liar" with Elon Musk also criticized. The movie reportedly cost $40 million to make and performed well in test screenings. Netflix, A24, and Focus Features have all declined to acquire it, with arthouse streamer MUBI as the frontrunner and Neon also interested.
