Tesla and SpaceX are building the Terafab semiconductor complex in Grimes County, Texas, announced on August 6, 2026, representing more than $16.8 billion in capital investment and roughly 100 million square feet of planned manufacturing space. The facility will vertically integrate advanced semiconductor manufacturing, including logic, memory, packaging, testing, AI processors and space-hardened chips, to support Optimus robots, Cybercabs, artificial intelligence, Starlink, space-based solar systems, Starship infrastructure and orbital AI data centers. A circulating figure suggests 350–425 million OZT of additional silver demand per year, though this is an outside extrapolation, not a disclosed corporate estimate. Using 2025 global mine production of roughly 846.6 million OZT, 350 Moz equals about 41% of annual global mine production, and 425 Moz equals about 50%. Global silver mine production is only around 26,000 metric tonnes annually. SpaceX has discussed a long-term ambition of deploying 100 gigawatts of orbital AI compute per year.
