This Trillion-Dollar AI Stock Offers Better Quantum Computing Exposur…

Microsoft, a $3 trillion AI stock, offers a more balanced risk-reward profile for quantum computing exposure than pure-play companies like IonQ, Rigetti, or D-Wave, according to a recent analysis. The company’s Azure Quantum is a cloud service where developers can run quantum programs on hardware from partners such as IonQ, Rigetti, Quantinuum, and Pasqal, or on advanced simulators, using the same Azure environment as for AI and high-performance computing. Microsoft describes Azure Quantum as an "open, flexible, and future-proofed path." In 2023, Microsoft announced Azure Quantum Elements with a goal to compress 250 years of chemistry and materials science progress into the next 25. The system combines Azure high-performance computing, AI models from the AI4Science team, and quantum capabilities. Microsoft states it can speed up some chemistry simulations by factors in the hundreds of thousands and expand candidate materials from thousands to tens of millions. The analysis suggests that with sentiment cooled after a year of worry about AI spending, investors can get quantum upside at a multiyear valuation low, rather than peak euphoria, while still owning a leading AI and cloud business if quantum adoption takes longer than expected.
