Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, speaking on entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath's podcast, predicted that coding will be among the first professions to be extensively automated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) before AI gradually takes over broader software engineering tasks. Amodei stated, "I think coding is going away first," adding that "the broader task of software engineering will take longer. But I think doing that end-to-end is going to happen as well." He noted that human-centric skills and AI-focused industries will become increasingly valuable, with areas such as product design, understanding user needs, identifying market demand, and managing teams of AI systems likely to remain dependent on human judgment. Amodei argued that AI's takeover of routine tasks should be viewed as a productivity enhancer, suggesting that "if you're only doing 5% of the task, the AI does the other 95%, you become 20 times more productive." Offering career advice, he urged young people to build skills that complement AI instead of competing with it. His comments come amid an intensifying global debate over the impact of generative AI on employment, particularly in the technology sector.
