Waze is rolling out an update heavy on Gemini and AI, introducing a broader conversational mode and an improved AI-powered Motorcycle mode. The app’s route recommendations will now appear more personalized, remembering user preferences for routes such as highways with fewer stops or quicker lanes, and optimizing routes accordingly; users can turn off these recommendations. The Motorcycle mode, now supercharged with AI, will show bike riders specialized routes that may include narrow lanes or shortcuts unsuitable for cars, and notify them of hazards like speed bumps, raised crosswalks, or narrow bridges. This mode is rolling out in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, and the Philippines. The Gemini-powered Conversational Reporting feature now allows users to report a wider variety of occurrences, including road closures or incorrect addresses, by talking to the app. Users can also rely on Gemini for recommendations based on vague descriptions, such as finding a gas station that sells coffee with vegan milk options. A “less chatty” mode can be toggled, where Waze only informs about crucial hazards or obstructions. Apart from the improved Motorcycle mode, all Waze features are rolling out.
