Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday that Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors and quantum computing will define the century ahead, urging the education system to embrace new technologies to create employable, cutting-edge human resources. Speaking at the inauguration of the AI Centre of Competency powered by NVIDIA at Ramdeobaba University in Nagpur, he stated, “AI, semi-con and quantum computing are going to shape the future of this century.” Noting a time lag between earlier industrial revolutions—the first starting in 1740, the second in 1860, and the third in 1950—he said Industry 4.0 began around 2010, peaked at 2016-17, and by 2026 the world is discussing a sixth revolution around AI, deep tech, and frontier technologies. He cited a tech expert’s prediction that in the next 1,000 days, the nature of 75 per cent jobs will change, not disappear, due to AI. Fadnavis said AI will change every walk of life and that agriculture can benefit from related technologies, citing the Maharashtra government’s ‘Mahavistar’ App, an AI-powered app answering farm-related queries in cultivators’ own language. He praised Ramdeobaba University for embracing new ideas.
