Google’s AI is accused of leaking a secret character from an indie game after a player asked it "silly questions" in incognito mode. The situation unfolded in the Discord server for Operation Octo, which launched on Steam in September 2025. The solo developer behind Klub Kofta Studio noticed the chatbot surfacing obscure information and suggested the player ask about unannounced content. The AI accurately revealed the exact name of an upcoming character: Vantage Tripod. Klub Kofta Studio confirmed the phrase had never been shared publicly, nor was it hidden in the game’s code, local files, Steam data, or serialized data. The developer insists the exact phrase existed digitally in only one place: a private Google Docs file. Google has officially pushed back, stating in a statement to Polygon that it does not scan private Workspace content, including Google Drive and Docs, to train foundational AI models like Gemini. The company noted that links to publicly shared documents might be indexed by search engine crawlers, but only if someone actively posts those links in the public domain. Google also emphasized users are in full control over sharing settings for Drive content. Now that the developer’s Reddit post has gone viral, asking the AI about the unreleased character results in it citing the Reddit thread itself as its source.
