Japanese AI startup Sakana AI has launched Fugu, a new AI model family that the company says outperforms Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 on coding and scientific reasoning benchmarks. Unlike traditional AI systems that rely on a single large language model, Fugu is designed to coordinate multiple AI models through a unified interface to tackle complex tasks. According to benchmark results shared by Sakana AI, Fugu Ultra achieved a score of 93.2 on LiveCodeBench, while the standard Fugu model scored 92.9. Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 recorded 89.8 on the same benchmark. The launch positions Sakana among a growing number of AI companies exploring alternatives to the "bigger model" approach, instead focusing on collaboration between multiple specialized models.
