OpenAI told Axios on Wednesday that it will acquire Pierre Computer, a developer tools startup and software development platform. OpenAI plans to integrate Pierre's Code Storage feature into Codex, where Pierre's technology is already in use, and said Pierre's open-source projects will remain open-source. Financial details of the acquisition deal were not disclosed. With the acquisition, OpenAI joins a growing number of companies competing with Microsoft's GitHub as AI agents become increasingly involved in coding tasks. According to critics, GitHub's main problem is that it was created for people, but today much of the software is written by AI, and its capabilities are not keeping pace with the development of AI tools.
