Meta has introduced the Muse Image model, developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, which lets users @mention Instagram accounts in the Meta AI app and use the account’s public images as a reference for AI prompts. The model “pairs with Muse Spark to reason through your prompt, search the web, and plan before it generates,” according to Meta’s chief AI officer, Alexandr Wang. At launch, Muse Image is available for free through the Meta AI app, Instagram Stories, and the Meta AI chat window on WhatsApp, with a usage cap; extended use requires a subscription. Users can start with a conversational prompt, upload a photo, or use Markup tools to draw over parts of an image for edits. Meta says this aligns with Instagram’s content reuse policy, meaning private accounts are not affected. To stop Meta AI from scraping content, users can go to Instagram profile Settings and activity, select Sharing and Reuse, and disable both options under “Allow people to reuse your content on Instagram and with AI features at Meta,” though changes “only apply to future media.” The model is currently available to users in the US and will soon be available on Facebook and Messenger.
