Midjourney CEO David Holz unveiled the company’s first hardware product, The Midjourney Scanner, an ultrasound-based full-body scanner developed in partnership with Butterfly Network. The scanner uses a ring of sensors to capture vertical slices of the inside of the body, analyzing muscle, fat, bone, and organs, and “aims for image quality comparable to MRI in many ways.” Butterfly Network stated it uses “40 Butterfly Ultrasound-on-Chip imaging modules per system.” The scanning process involves stepping onto a platform that drops into water on rails through a ring of thousands of transducers that create ultrasonic waves, recording ripples passing through the body to create detailed 3D images. Holz mentioned potential use for tracking body changes from diet and workouts, and job listings describe the goal of building “the world’s first full-body ultrasound CT scanner” for preventative scanning via a spa experience. Holz also discussed plans to build a San Francisco spa.
