According to the Global Smartwatch Shipment Tracker released on the 12th by Counterpoint Research, global shipments of edge AI-enabled smartwatches in the first quarter of 2026 jumped 70% from a year earlier, accounting for 25% of the overall smartwatch market. Edge AI performs machine learning computations directly on the device, processing data without a smartphone or cloud connection to analyze heart rate, sleep patterns, and body temperature in real time, and detect signs of falls, arrhythmia, and other abnormalities. Mohit Agrawal, a director at Counterpoint Research, stated that "by the end of this year, the share of edge AI adoption will expand to 32%." In the first quarter of this year, shipments of smartwatches with blood pressure monitoring functions doubled from a year earlier, while products equipped with sleep apnea detection tripled. Chipset makers including Apple Inc., with its S9 chip featuring a four-core neural engine, Huawei with its KirinW80 chip and Celia AI assistant, and Qualcomm with its Snapdragon Wear Elite, are competing in the market.
