Linux users finally get a real Copilot app, and Microsoft didn't even…

Hayden Barnes built an unofficial Copilot app for Linux, as Microsoft has not released an official Copilot app for the platform. The app opens the Copilot web app in a dedicated GTK window, keeps login sessions on disk, and integrates with the desktop for autostart, system downloads, app launcher execution, and hardware permissions like the microphone. Barnes shared the project on X with a link to its GitHub page. The native GTK application allows deep system shortcut integration, system tray operation, and native OS notifications, plus support for desktop accent colors and system dark themes. It isolates Copilot from the main browser to avoid slowdowns from many open tabs. The first publicly available release shipped this week, and its long-term stability and performance remain to be determined.
