OpenAI has placed three grandmothers at the center of a new campaign introducing GPT-Live, its latest generation of voice models for ChatGPT. In the nearly four-minute film, titled “This is the new ChatGPT Voice, powered by GPT-Live,” the women use ChatGPT for everyday tasks including planning a trip, checking facts, and translating a conversation. The interactions aim to demonstrate GPT-Live’s more natural conversational rhythm. GPT-Live-1 and GPT-Live-1 mini use a full-duplex architecture, allowing the models to listen and speak simultaneously rather than waiting for a clearly defined turn to end. This enables the system to follow pauses, interruptions, and changes in pace while deciding whether to respond or continue listening. “During conversations, GPT‑Live can show it’s paying attention with phrases like “mhmm” or “yeah”, engage in quick back-and-forth, or just stay quiet when you need a moment to think,” OpenAI said in a blogpost. GPT-Live-1 is rolling out as the default ChatGPT Voice model for Go, Plus, and Pro users, while GPT-Live-1 mini will serve Free users.
